奇門遁甲, in plain words
You may have heard of astrology, or feng shui, and still have no idea what 奇門遁甲 is. That is not your fault — for most of its history it was taught by mouth, never written down, and treated as a military secret. It did not stay obscure because it was weak. It was deliberately kept from you.
And it was never the content that was hard. It is that nobody has explained it in words you already use. These pages take the terminology out and say what it actually calculates.

天干, 地支, 八門, 九星, 八神 — stack those names together and what you have is a fixed set of rules: give it one moment and one place, and it produces one specific diagram. Which is to say, it was always a program for reading time and place — one that a thousand years ago had to run in a human head and pass from master to student.
It comes in three steps

So how is this different from astrology?
It asks a different question. Not a more accurate one — a different one.

Which is why this school never needs your birth date. If something calls itself 奇門遁甲 and asks when you were born, it is almost certainly calculating something else — usually a birth-chart system wearing 奇門遁甲's clothes.
One thing worth saying up front
奇門遁甲 gets talked about as though it were magic. It is not supernatural. It is what happens when people with astronomy, a calendar and a set of derivation rules try to turn “when, in which direction, and at what” into something you can actually compute. It offers a reference, not a guarantee — no chart can tell you how something will turn out.
